Sarah Palin, the Press and the Emails

Last week, the boxes and boxes of emails that Sarah Palin had amassed during her time as governor were released.  This all came about after a massive push to get them released by the media and some far left activists hoping to dig up some dirt on Palin.  Finally, more than 24,000 emails were released and media giants stood in line to get their copies.

Now I understand holding our elected officials accountable but really?  They don’t admit to singling Palin out but claim that it is the duty of the media to investigate such matters.  OK then, has the media ever given this thorough of a search on a governor before?  The answer is NO.  This is a first, although now that they have a taste for this, they may do it more often for other public figures they don’t like.

Let’s be real here.  The media doesn’t like Sarah Palin and the more they go after her, the more the people of this country like her.  Yet, the media doesn’t stop.  It is relentless how they pursue this woman.  She isn’t even running for office but they hound her just the same.

It all started after John McCain tapped Palin to be his running mate in the 2008 elections and Obama’s numbers started to slip as Sarah started gaining national attention.  You’d think the earth stopped or something judging by the dumbfounded attention by the liberal media.  They unearthed everything they could about this woman, everything from school days up until she spoke at the convention.  Ok, it can be argued that this is what the press, our 4th estate, is supposed to do. But aren’t they supposed to dig into the past of all the candidates?

Funny none of them went any deeper than saying that they couldn’t find anything on then Senator Obama.  When told the records were sealed, it didn’t seem to bother them at all.  No one asked why.  No one was intrigued enough about the mystery to do anything about it.  Yet Sarah Palin had every grade from college spread out on the internet.  Can you imagine the headlines if Sarah had thought to conceal her past from the media?

It didn’t stop there.  They attacked this woman, her children, her family, her beliefs, and her character.  Through it all she stood straight, complained a bit, yes, but for Pete’s sake, who wouldn’t have.  She saw her likeness vilified, hung and impersonated badly.  She was poked fun of, called vile and uncouth names, and ridiculed by media and celebrity types.  When they couldn’t find enough bad things out about her they starting making up lies about her.  She was the most talked about subject for months.

Currently, Sarah Palin isn’t running for anything.  She is running against this administration.  She is keeping the people informed and involved in the daily activities of our leaders.  She is a Tea Party darling although not a candidate.  Which brings us to the email story.

Hoping to find anything to further besmirch the name of the governor, the press hired readers to help them go through all of the emails and bring to their attention anything that they thought newsworthy.  So they outsourced this job to anyone who could read.  This is what solid investigative journalism is?

Well, the emails have all been read and reread not only in this country but around the world as well.  This email blitz has not exposed anything that we didn’t already know about Sarah – no big surprises, no dirty little secrets to expose, and no scandals to report.  To be truthful, the emails portray a woman who is a loving mother, a conscientious governor and a firm believer in God, everything we already knew and appreciated about her.  She comes across as funny, honest and compassionate.  What a stunning and humiliating defeat for the elite press hoping for a scandal to further embarrass the former governor.

A writer from the Telegraph, Tony Harden, takes it even further and reports that the emails show Sarah as a woman who is “…idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane…slightly bemused by the world of politics.”

He sums up the entire sordid affair, saying, One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital, to pore over the emails in the hope of digging up a scandal are now viewing the result as a rather poor return on their considerable investment. If anything, Mrs. Palin seems likely to emerge from the scrutiny of the 24,000 pages, contained in six boxes and weighing 275 pounds, with her reputation considerably enhanced.

Many have concluded that this whole email saga will end up being a complete and total embarrassment for the main street media and a great waste of time.   Comparing this scrutiny with the effort put forth investigating Obama and one has to wonder why such a discrepancy.  To this day, the LA Times holds a video that they refuse to release to the public of Barack Obama celebrating with Palestinians in their efforts to rid the world of Israel altogether and even toasting the former PLO operative, Rashid Khalidi.  The LA Times hid this from the American people before the election and still, to this day, keep it hidden.

In light of all of this, one can plainly see the investigative reporting on Sarah Palin seems to have an agenda about it.  Well, in this case, their digging did not produce the results they wanted but may, in fact, cause even more people to see the lengths that the media will go to bring down a possible opponent of one their chosen candidates.  If only they would be so dogged in their attempts to teach the people about all who run for office.

As a side note, included in the boxes and emails was a letter, penned by Sarah to family and friends about the expected birth of Trig, and the knowledge that he would be born with Down’s syndrome.  A heart-warming and uplifting message truly written from the heart may change the way that the American public views Sarah Palin.
